After exiting the Doge's Palace, we were back in St. Mark's Square.

We were on our way for a tour of a Murano Glass Factory and would be heading through the Clock Tower, built during the Renaissance in 1496.

Even though the Glass Factory was clearly a tourist trap, I found it very interesting. The smooth-talking tour guide at right was very good, but the master glass-blower at center was amazing. In front of us, he made a glass horse in seven minutes. Incredible. He made it look easy but I'm guessing it has taken the guy his entire adult life to have skills like this.

He started with a glob of yellow-hot glass. I wish I would have taken a picture of the finished product, but I can assure you it was quite something.

Our tour guide showing all the different glassware they create here. All for sale, of course. They had multiple showrooms like this; it was quite an operation.

A giant glass horse. Magnficent, but it's going to cost you.

We ended up not buying anything. The glass art was nice, but at this stage in our life we are trying to downsize, not collect more stuff.
